A Day in the Life Presents . . . Horror, Science Fiction, and Fantasy Writer, Derek Muk!

Terrie Leigh Relf: What types – and forms – of writing do you do?

Derek Muk: I write horror, science fiction, and fantasy, but primarily paranormal horror fiction.

Terrie Leigh Relf: How do you balance your creative and work time?

Derek Muk: Regarding balance, I have a regular day job and write in the evenings and on the weekends.

Terrie Leigh Relf: What tips do you have for other writers?

Derek Muk: Keep writing and submitting your work. Don’t get discouraged by rejections. Keep your chin up and keep honing your craft.

Terrie Leigh Relf: What are your thoughts on the creative process?

Derek Muk: I think every writer’s creative process is different. For me personally, I get inspiration from different things. Sometimes it may be from something I saw on the news, sometimes it’s a movie or TV show I watched, a conversation I had with someone, or from going on vacation somewhere. From there, I may let the idea sit in my head for a while before I do anything. Other times, depending on what the subject is, I may start writing something right away.

Terrie Leigh Relf: Where all have you been published?

Derek Muk: I’ve been published in various small/indie press magazines, some chapbooks, anthologies, and some novellas. See my website for a full list of where I’ve been published.

Terrie Leigh Relf: What about upcoming publications?

Derek Muk: One of my short stories will appear in the next issue of Nameless Digest.

Terrie Leigh Relf: What are you currently working on?

Derek Muk: I’m currently working on another horror novella.

Terrie Leigh Relf: So, when it comes to creating a short story or novella, are you a plotter and/or a planner?

Derek Muk:  I’m a plotter and planner.

Terrie Leigh Relf: Any promotional or marketing tips you’d like to share?

Derek Muk: I’ve found book reviews, interviews, and networking to all be helpful. I like attending conventions.

Terrie Leigh Relf: Thank you again so much, Derek, for creating time for this interview! Be sure to check out his work at this link and this one as well! and stay-tuned for his upcoming horror novella!
