Here’s a poem from my new collection. . .

Here’s a poem from my new collection, Search for a Kinder Muse:

If you let them. . .

poems will take you places you don’t want to go,

like the cliff overhanging the “isn’t that a great view?!”

So you scrunch back in the seat while your date slips

his hand up your shirt and you squirm away

but that just makes it worse, ‘cause sometimes poems

will get caught in your bra strap like lyrics from the oldies station

and sometimes poems will crawl up your pant leg, burrow

in your navel like a tick and “Don’t worry! Just sit still, I’m

going to burn it out”, but you’re scared and you jerk and

the match drops on your belly and you scream and you scream

and you scream because that poem won’t go out. No, it just won’t

go out, and it’s going to leave a really nasty scar.
